Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021 runs from Monday 10th - Sunday 16th May, and it is a great opportunity to think about what you can do to maintain good mental health. The theme of the week this year is ‘nature’, and we encourage you to consider how connecting with nature and the environment can help your mental wellbeing. Research suggests that spending time in green space can have many important health benefits. These include improving your mood, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety, improving your self-esteem and confidence and helping you to be more active.

Mental Health UK are inviting us to immerse ourselves in the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ during the week, while reconnecting with nature. The Five Ways to Wellbeing are key to improving our mental health, and they include the themes of connectedness, keeping active, learning, helping others, and taking notice. In line with this, you can now sign up to receive daily content around the Five Ways to Wellbeing throughout Mental Health Awareness Week. You will receive a daily newsletter made up of blogs, podcasts, tips and advice.

There’s plenty of other things going on during the week to get involved with. Why not attend one of St John’s Ambulance free mental health webinars or sign up to the Mental Health Foundation’s ‘Take Action, Get Active’ challenge? Even just starting a conversation around mental health with a friend, family member or colleague during the week will help to raise awareness. Remember that information, resources and support are always available to you via the Stress, Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing pages.
