Mental Health First Aid within the authority

Stress, mental health, and emotional wellbeing are all closely linked and are key factors when considering our overall health and wellbeing.  Including, our ability to deal with the demands and pressures of everyday life. It is vital to maintaining our wellbeing and to reduce the risk of developing poor mental health.  Too much emotional or mental pressure can limit our ability to cope so it’s important to be aware of what we can do to look after our mental health and emotional wellbeing and in turn, remain happy and healthy.

What are mental health first aiders?

MHFA is both preventative and proactive. The MHFA are a network of staff throughout the authority, they are trained to provide mental health first aid to a colleague in need – when experiencing mental health crisis or emotional distress and to spot the early signs of mental ill-health in others. They are equipped to provide initial support, a non-judgemental, empathetic ear and to confidently signpost someone to appropriate support, both internal and external, they are equipped to deal with emergencies too.

How to get in touch?

You will find all qualified Mental Health First Aiders on the intranet with their contact details, feel free to contact any MHFA. Be assured all conversations are confidential.
