Who is it aimed at?

All employees who assist people to move and transfer in a care environment and have previously attended a three day Client Handling Foundation course with Carmarthenshire County Council and hold a current All Wales Manual Handling Passport.

What are the objectives?

Ensure all staff attending have a continued understanding of:

  • Causes and prevention of MH related injuries linked to their work activities
  • An understanding of the risk assessment process in relation to inanimate load handling and client handling
  • How good verbal and written communication skills can enhance safe handling practices
  • The ability to carry out safe client handling techniques
  • An ability to identify unsafe practices and handling techniques
  • The ability to evaluate and use handling aids safely
  • Manual handling problem solving 

Staff will also be introduced and trained in any new equipment or techniques appropriate to their work activities.

How will it make a difference?

Improvement in the health and safety of staff by reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries caused by poor handling in the workplace and hence reduce sickness absence.

It will improve and ensure the health, safety and dignity of clients.

How to apply:

If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.

If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.

Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.

Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
