Who is it aimed at?
All care staff and managers in care & respite homes, domiciliary & day services for adults.
What are the objectives?
This course is an introduction to the Welsh Government’s Gwen am Byth - Oral Health training programme to raise awareness of the importance of mouthcare in care services for the adult population in Wales. Gwên am Byth (A Lasting Smile) is a programme initiated by the Welsh government in 2015 with the aim of improving oral hygiene and mouth care for older people living in care homes through the development of a consistent all-Wales approach. The Welsh Government is aiming to offer the Gwên am Byth programme throughout all care homes and care services in Wales from 2020/21 onwards.
The course aims to cover the following:
- Mouthcare for those living in a Care Setting
- Mouthcare for domically staff
- End of life
- Overview of Resources available
- Adults with special needs (separate presentation)
How will it make a difference?
Participants will be:
- Able to state the importance for good Mouthcare
- Recognise the Systemic risks associated with poor Mouthcare
- Use the appropriate Mouthcare resources’
How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council but meet the eligibility criteria to attend this course should complete this application form.
