Who is it aimed at?

Operational Service Managers and designated staff who have an agency responsibility to accept alerts and contribute to the referral and decision making process, e.g. service provider managers in statutory organisations that provide care and support to adults.

What are the objectives?

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • The role of your organisation in the Safeguarding process
  • How to clarify initial concern
  • How to clarify wishes of adults at risk of abuse
  • How to manage immediate risks
  • How to clarify and provide relevant supporting information which will assist the decision making process.
  • Capacity and consent issues relevant to the Safeguarding process
  • What to do and what not to do with regard to preserving information/evidence
  • The next stages of the Safeguarding process and the implications for yourself or your agency
  • Understand how to appropriately contribute to inter-agency assessment by gathering and sharing information appropriately
  • Understand how to challenge other professionals and how to escalate concerns appropriately
  • Able to document concerns in a manner that is appropriate for safeguarding and legal processes

How will it make a difference?

To provide managers and designated staff with the knowledge and understanding of their roles and responsibilities within Safeguarding to enable them to receive, clarify and refer alerts and manage immediate risks.

How to apply:

If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.

If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.

Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.


Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council but meet the eligibility criteria to attend this course should complete this application form.


The online application system will only show courses that are actively open to book a place on.
