Life Journey Work
Life Journey Work
Who is it aimed at?
Social Work Professionals
What are the objectives?
By the end of the course participants will have:
- Considered why Life Journey Work should be prioritised and look at best practice in supporting children and young people with learning about their life history.
- Explored how to best present difficult information that is relevant and age appropriate to adopted and looked after children and young people.
- Gained confidence in constructing life story book while ensuring it fits with the child's age and developmental stage. This would also include the development of parallel stories.
- An opportunity to ask questions and hear some practical suggestions to help children understand their background and promote a positive sense of identity.
How will it make a difference?
The thread throughout all these processes is to support a sense of permanence for the child; embedding the child in the foster/adoptive family while offering an opportunity to process their multiple losses (including that of the birth family and previous foster carers if applicable) and therefore to develop a coherent, narrative account of their life.
