Planning ahead to the Pre-Election Period

The next Senedd election will take place on 7 May 2026, with the pre-election period due to start mid/end of March 2026.

We must all consider this when planning future work, events and activities. During this period the Council needs to ensure that it remains impartial. Extra care must be taken to ensure that the Council maintains a neutral stance and does not give prominence or publicity to any particular candidate or party.

To support staff during this time, the Pre-Election Protocol will be released before the Pre-Election Period begins and will cover matters like publicity, engagements, announcements and briefings, and how these should be managed during the pre-election period.

It will also provide advice around the use of Council resources, correspondence with candidates, meetings and use of Council buildings.

We will share this guidance with you as soon as it’s available.

Please note that the guidance will apply to all Council members, employees and contractors undertaking work on behalf of the Council.
