CCTV Operating Principles

All CCTV systems must be operated in accordance with the Authority's approved CCTV Operating Principles, ensuring that systems are used proportionately, ethically and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Key Principles:

• CCTV must have a clear, documented and justifiable business purpose.

• CCTV operations must comply with data protection legislation and privacy requirements.

• Appropriate security controls and access restrictions must be in place.

• CCTV footage must be retained and disposed of in accordance with approved retention schedules.

• CCTV deployments should be reviewed periodically to ensure they remain necessary, effective and proportionate.
