Workplace Recycling

The way we recycle in the workplace has changed

It is now law for all businesses, charities, and public sector organisations to sort their waste for recycling.

To meet our compliance we have replaced standalone bins across the workplace with designated recycling stations strategically placed throughout the building, making it easier for you to dispose of your waste responsibly.

Posters are in place to guide you to these new locations.  If you have a bin in your office that is not located at a designated waste station, it will not be collected.

Under the new Welsh Government legislation all non-domestic premises will be required to segregate their waste into the following categories for collection:

  • paper and cardboard
  • metal, plastic, and cartons
  • food
  • glass

Items must be clean and empty.  You will no longer be able to recycle some items that you currently do at home eg plastic film and black plastic food trays.  Please check our workplace A-Z of recycling for what can be recycled and in what bin.

Also, as part of the new legislation, organisations are no longer be permitted to use waste disposal units as the disposing of food waste into sewers is also banned.

Natural Resources Wales are regulating the new law and fines can be issued for non-compliance.

It is everyone’s responsibility to put the correct waste in the correctly labelled bin. Putting all your waste into a single bin will not be allowed, you must sort you waste out properly.

Failure to comply with the law could mean a fine.
