Covid-19 vaccine update

1182 days ago

This week two new vaccination centres are opening in Carmarthenshire - Theatr Ffwrnes in Llanelli and the Halliwell Centre in Carmarthen.

A huge thank you to our staff who have agreed to be re-deployed to provide essential support in both centres in order for this to happen and to managers for supporting their deployment at short notice.

Big progress has been made with the vaccine rollout to our social care workforce who fall within national priority groups 1 and 2 of the vaccination programme. Over half of our 6,500 Council and independent sector staff in these priority groups have received their vaccine. This figure is increasing by the day and it is expected that all those eligible will have received their first vaccination dose by the target date of the middle of February.

Although the vaccination is being rolled out to protect our staff and those most vulnerable in our community, not enough is yet known about how much the vaccine reduces the ability to still spread the virus. As such it is crucial that those vaccinated continue to use PPE and follow all infection control guidance when carrying out their roles.

Systems are also in place to ensure that all staff who provide personal care in an education setting (eligible under Welsh Government guidance) are able to book appointments.

Staff should be aware that any emails that appear to be from an NHS email address inviting you to a vaccination appointment are a scam. If you are eligible to receive a vaccination under priority groups 1 and 2, you will only be invited to do so via someone working for the Council. If you sit in any of the other priority groups, you will be invited by your GP or the NHS usually by letter, but on some occasions through a telephone call from your GP.

Frequently asked questions on the vaccination programme and priority group information can be found on the Public Health Wales website.
