Think before you click – exercise to ensure we don’t get caught out by phishing emails

In the coming weeks, we will all be taking part in a simulated phishing exercise which is being held by our cyber security training provider, Bob’s Business.

The purpose of this ‘Think Before You Click’ exercise is to educate those members of staff who may fall victim to a phishing email by providing them with the relevant information to stay protected.

Don’t worry if you do fall victim to one of the simulated phishing emails during this exercise - if you do click, you will be contacted to go through a brief training session.

Phishing is when an attacker sends emails to a large audience in the hope of tricking a few into either providing personal information or downloading malicious software. All this just from a single click!

These emails are designed to look legitimate and encourage you to click.

Attackers use a variety of different methods to get you to engage! They will use techniques such as using a false sense of familiarity to try and trick you into disclosing sensitive information or clicking on dangerous links.

Whilst we have an email filtering gateway which does stop most of these, some may still get through.

Always make sure you report any suspicious emails to the IT team. Reporting is the best way to protect you and our organisation and prevent a breach. You can do this by clicking on the ‘report message’ tab at the top right of your outlook page.

Remember to be wary of emails and most importantly, remember to Think Before You Click!

By us all understanding the importance of staying protected it will also ensure a safer working environment for us all and keep the organisation more secure from cyber attacks.
