Update on CFP to SharePoint Data Migration

Work is continuing on the transferring of data from the Council File Plan (CFP) to SharePoint, with the project currently remaining on schedule.

Moving over to SharePoint is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to the Digital Technology Strategy – ‘A cloud first approach’. SharePoint offers many benefits, including ensuring that we comply with data protection legislation through automated data retention. It also enables us to work together by being able to securely share, collaborate and simultaneously work on files.

To date six top level folders from the CFP have been successfully migrated over to the cloud environment – resulting in almost 2.8 million files/folders and over 1.2 terabytes of data being migrated.

A big thank you to those departments who have worked with IT colleagues during pre-migration activities. This initial work is of vital importance and enables progress in the adoption of cloud-based technologies.

We should all be regularly reviewing what we currently store within the CFP and it’s good practice to delete any unwanted data or data that is past its retention period. This will also ensure that only required, good and relevant data is being moved across.

A SharePoint training resource, which will give an overview of SharePoint as well as describe key features and step-by-step guidance, will be available soon.
