Celebrating LGBT+ History Month
February marks LGBT+ History Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the diverse and vibrant community of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other identities. It is an opportunity for us to promote inclusivity, understanding, and support within our workplace and beyond.
As a Council we will be flying the Rainbow Flag at County Hall, Carmarthen, and Ammanford and Llanelli Town Hall’s this weekend to show our support.
As an employer, we are committed to creating a safe and supportive workplace for all employees, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. We believe that diversity enriches our team and enhances our ability to serve the community effectively.
Head over to our Equality & Diversity intranet pages where you will find useful information in relation to supporting our Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Staff and resources aimed at supporting our Transgender Staff.
We have various modules on Equality and Diversity, which provide practical tools to create a more inclusive environment. Please check Thinqi for further information.
We have also established a support network within our council to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ staff members. This network offers peer support, advocacy, and opportunities for social connection. If you would like to join or learn more about this network, please contact Health&wellbeing@carmarthenshire.gov.uk.
If you're facing challenges related to your sexual orientation or gender identity, remember that confidential support is available. Visit the LGBTQIA+ intranet pages for further support information LGBTQIA+. 1:1 psychological support is also available where required via the authority's Wellbeing Support Service further to a referral from your line manager.
Let's show our support and celebrate this amazing month together.
