Coping with Anxiety
7 hours ago
Next week is Mental health Awareness which aims to reduce stigma, promote understanding, and empower people to prioritise their mental health.
Anxiety is a normal emotion in us all, but sometimes it can get out of control and become a mental health problem.
Lots of things can lead to feelings of anxiety, including exam pressures, relationships, starting a new job (or losing one) or other big life events. We can also get anxious when it comes to things to do with money and not being able to meet our basic needs, like heating our home or buying food. But anxiety can be made easier to manage.
Many people suffer with different levels of anxiety every day and there are lots of effects that anxiety can have on the body and mind and they can become debilitating.
A few ways in which you can manage you anxiety are;
- Talk therapy.
- Medication (especially if it is severe).
- Self-care.
- Looking after your physical health.
- Keeping a diary.
- Ensuring you have a good support network and people to talk to.
In order to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, we asked some of our Health and Wellbeing Champions and Mental Health First Aiders, to write down what they do to help their anxiety. There might be a few strategies that could help if you are experiencing anxious thoughts. This can be found on the Padlet
For further information on anxiety please go to Mind website. Any other help and support can be found on our intranet pages.
Increase your awareness of Mental Health and explore ways that will help you recognise the signs of mental ill health by completing our Mental Health in the Workplace e-learning module.
We welcomed Mark from Time to change Wales this week to share his lived experience of Mental health via E-chat. If you would like to view the recording of this session, please contact health&wellbeing@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
