Menopause Awareness Month

October marks Menopause Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating the public and breaking the stigma surrounding menopause. Despite being a natural phase affecting millions of women, menopause is often misunderstood or overlooked.

This month's focus is on education, support, and open conversation. Health experts stress that symptoms such as hot flushes, mood changes, anxiety, brain fog, and sleep disturbances can have a significant impact on daily life. However, with the right information, support, and understanding, women can navigate this stage with greater confidence and wellbeing.

Organizations and workplaces are encouraged to provide resources, host awareness events, and create supportive environments where conversations about menopause can take place openly and without judgement. Advocates emphasize that menopause is not just a women's issue - it affects families, workplaces, and communities, making awareness and understanding essential for everyone.

As part of Menopause Awareness Month, the Health & Wellbeing Team is pleased to be hosting a Menopause Café on 8 October, providing an opportunity for colleagues to come together in a safe, informal, and supportive environment to share experiences, ask questions, and learn more about menopause and its impact.

We are also delighted to welcome Karen Gibbard as our guest speaker. Karen will be sharing her knowledge, expertise, and practical advice to help increase understanding of menopause and support those experiencing it. Whether you are affected personally, supporting a family member, friend, or colleague, or simply want to learn more, everyone is encouraged to attend.

For those unable to join live, the session will be recorded and made available afterwards, ensuring that colleagues can access the information and support at a time that suits them.

Menopause Awareness Month is a call to listen, learn, and support, helping to create a workplace culture where everyone feels understood, supported, and empowered throughout their menopause journey. Together, we can ensure that no one feels alone during this important life transition.
