Climate Action Carmarthenshire

Page updated: 18/02/2025

In February 2019, Carmarthenshire County Council made a significant commitment to declaring a climate emergency and setting a clear goal to become a net zero carbon authority by 2030. As part of our leadership on this issue, we became the first council in Wales to publish a detailed Net Zero Carbon Action Plan, which was formally endorsed by the council in February 2020.

This commitment is not just about our role as a local authority; it’s about leading by example and inspiring our community – residents, businesses and other organisations – to join us in reducing their carbon footprint. As staff members, your contribution is vital to the success of this mission. Together, we can make a real difference in tackling climate change.

To achieve our net zero carbon goal by 2030, we’re taking a practical approach. Our measurable carbon emissions focus on four key areas, but our efforts span across all departments, with a variety of different initiatives helping us combat the climate emergency.

To make this corporate vision a reality, we need the full support and participation of all council staff. The climate emergency needs to be considered within your workstreams, and we encourage you to take big and small actions, whether it’s ensuring you turn your computer screen off at the end of the day or contribute to ideas and solutions.

Together, we can make a real difference in building a sustainable future for Carmarthenshire. Let's work together to lead by example and make a difference for our community and the planet.
