Children, Young People, Mental Health, and the Law (Refresher training for Approved Mental Health Professionals)
Who is it aimed at?
AMHPs practising in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
What are the objectives?
This training aims to develop knowledge about the legal aspects of the admission to hospital and treatment of children and young people with complex mental health needs. It will specifically address the following:
- Law and policy relevant to the informal admission and treatment of children and young people under the age of 18, including the assessment of capacity and competence
- Rules governing parental responsibility and the identification of nearest relative
- Treatment and care in hospital and local authority responsibilities
- Relevant case-law concerning deprivation of liberty of young people
- Examination of the application of knowledge in practice
How will it make a difference?
The training will support AMHPs when responding to a request to assess a child or young person under the Mental Health Act.
