Risk Assessment within a Strengths Based Approach
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in CRTs, Hospital Teams and Progression and Efficiency Team, applications will be accepted from other teams offering a service to adults and will be kept on a reserve list until the course closing date.
What are the objectives?
The training course aims to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to work with risk in an accountable and defensible manner whilst delivering the outcomes of the individual.
It will specifically:
- Explain and demonstrate the application of the Mental Capacity Act, Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act and other related legislation and procedures when assessing risk
- Explore defensible decision making
- Explore using a positive risk approach for adults who have capacity but appear to be under duress
- Identify how to maximise strengths and mitigate areas of difficulty to support a positive risk approach that yields positive outcomes for the individual
- Explore staff bias and ways of checking for protective imperative dominated decision making

The training will support participants to work effectively with risk whilst delivering the outcomes of the individual.

If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
