Applying Analysis in Assessment to Inform Intervention (First Year in Practice Developmental Workshop)

Who is it aimed at?

This training course is a one day event and is one of the mandatory training sessions for Newly Qualified Social Workers in their First Year of Practice. It is also an important part of preparatory arrangements for social workers who will complete the Consolidation Programme during their second year of practice.

What are the objectives?

To provide Participants with:

  • Knowledge of the skills needed to use a person centred, outcome focused approach to carry out a range of assessments in both adult and children services; this will be explored by considering the links between the assessment process and the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014; the opportunity to use critical analysis to develop interventions and solutions with individuals who use services and carers
  • To explore intervention and the application of professional judgement in increasingly complex situations; to consider and evaluate personal practice; to manage ethical issues, dilemmas and conflicts; to assess needs, risks and circumstances in partnership with those involved; to agree risk management plans to promote independence and responsibility; the opportunity to consider the implication of risk and ethical issues when making professional judgements

How will it make a difference?

Newly qualified social workers will have a greater understanding of the context for social work practice. They will have the knowledge to develop skills and strategies for professional collaboration and partnership working.
