Carer Assessments Under SSWBA
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in teams offering services to adults.
What are the objectives?
This training will offer participants the opportunity to develop greater knowledge about undertaking carer assessments under SSWBA. It will address the following:
- Definition and identification of carers
- Duties to carers under SSWBA
- Assessment process, including combined assessments
- Issues arising around undertaking assessments, including carer place of residence and refusal of assessment
- Eligibility criteria
- Meeting carers’ needs and review process
- Lessons from case law and Ombudsman decisions
How will it make a difference?
It will support effective practice which reflects legislative requirements in relation to undertaking carer assessments.

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
