Court of Protection

Who is it aimed at?

Social work staff based in CMHTs and Substance Misuse Team, applications will also be accepted from social workers based in other teams offering services to adults and kept on a reserve list until after the closing date.

What are the objectives?

The training course aims to improve practitioners’ knowledge and skills about taking a case to the Court of Protection.

It will specifically address:

  • The scope and function of the Court of Protection.
  • Legal literacy- when does a case fall within the scope of the Court of Protection
  • Role of the practitioner in taking a case to the Court of Protection
  • The Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding- considering capacity and consent
  • Expectations and challenges of taking a case to the Court of Protection
  • Evidencing decision making – analysis and presenting written arguments
  • Skills practice- preparing, presenting, and defending a statement in the Court of Protection

How to apply:

If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.

If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.

Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.


Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
