Court Skills for Adult Social Care
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in CTLDs and CRTs will be given priority, applications will be accepted from social workers based in other teams and kept on a reserve list until after the closing date.
What are the objectives?
This course provides participants with an overview of the court and legal processes in adult social care, key tips on how to prepare good quality evidence and being cross examined. The course identifies common mistakes and how they can be avoided by using best practice guidance. The training will specifically offer the opportunity of developing greater knowledge and skills in relation to:
- The different types of court and how the law is applie
- Why and when professionals must go to court in adult social care
- Key legal terms and concepts
- What constitutes good evidence
- How to prepare for going to court
- What happens in court
- Common mistakes and how they can be avoided
- Being confident in giving evidence
How will it make a difference?
The training will support participants to practice more effectively when producing reports and attending court.

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
