Family Network Meetings
Who is it aimed at?
Qualified Social Workers within Children Services.
What are the objectives?
Day 1
- The purpose and usefulness of Family Network Meetings, including
virtual facilitation. - How we can extend the use of genograms to identify important people
and consider with family members who to invite to FNM - How to facilitate conversations with family members about different
helping relationships - Consideration of how power can be shared and distributed within
FNM to contribute towards more collaborative approaches to family
problems.
Day 2
- How to use ideas such as ‘warming the context’ and ‘permission
seeking’ to enable safe boundaries for people to talk. - Exploration of the anticipation dialogue and how it can be applied to
FNM in Children’s Social Care. - Consideration of how to bring in Signs of Safety ideas alongside into
FNM. - Practise of developing collaborative questions with the family
- Using ideas to self and relational reflexivity to guide facilitation of
group processes.
How will it make a difference?
Social Workers will have a better understanding of the purpose of Family Network Meetings. The training will equip Social Workers with techniques to facilitate constructive Family Network Meetings in the hope of achieving positive outcomes for the children and families they support.

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
