Transgender and Non- Binary Awareness Training
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in CTLDs and 0-25 Disability Team. Applications will also be accepted from social work staff based in other teams offering services to adults, and places offered ,if available, once the closing date is reached.
What are the objectives?
This training aims to develop a greater understanding about the experiences of transgender and non-binary people and a greater knowledge about ways of offering effective support. It will specifically offer the following:
- The opportunity to revisit concepts relevant to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice
- Consideration of the myths, assumptions, and stereotyping around transgender and non-binary people
- Information about the day-to-day challenges experienced by transgender and non-binary people
- Information about the prevalence of discrimination and hate crime experienced by transgender and non-binary people
- Consideration of the use of appropriate language and terminology
- Consideration of relevant legislation and its role in protecting the rights of transgender and non-binary people
- Consider best practice in relation to the inclusion and empowerment of transgender and non-binary people
How will it make a difference?
The training will offer social workers the knowledge needed to offer more effective support to transgender and non-binary people.
