Staying Well over the Festive Period

For many of us, the festive period has typically been a time to relax, spend time with loved ones and have a well-deserved break, whilst for others it remains a busy time. Whatever your situation, it’s important that we continue look after ourselves and stay safe, happy and well.

We have put together our top tips for staying well this festive season which we hope will help you to enjoy yourselves as safely as possible:

  1. Be present and savour the moments. Try to switch off from all that is going on, take notice and appreciate the little things.
  2. Ask for help. The festive period can be a difficult, lonely or stressful time for some, so if you are feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope, reach out and ask for help.
  3. Plan ahead. The festive season is a busy time for us all, so try to stay on top of things by being prepared and planning ahead, whether it’s for the Christmas shopping or virtual social events. Perhaps set yourself a budget so that you spend within your means.
  4. Get plenty of fresh air and keep active. Getting outside daily for some fresh air is a great way to beat feelings of stress and help you to feel relaxed. Exercise is also proven to boost self-esteem, help you to concentrate and improve sleep, so make sure physical activity remains part of your daily routine throughout the festive period.
  5. Do what you makes you happy. Make sure you put some time aside for the hobbies and activities that you enjoy. Whether you continue to work or whether you have some time off, it’s important to continue doing the things that make you smile.
  6. Manage expectations. Many people feel a pressure over the festive season to please everyone. Try to be realistic about what you can achieve, don’t worry if things don’t go quite as planned and focus on enjoying yourself.
  7. Connect with those closest to you. Christmas is a time to connect with those nearest and dearest to you, your community and perhaps those who are on their own. Whether it’s in person or on the phone, human connection is an important remedy for stress and supports general wellbeing.

Stay well, stay safe and have a Merry Christmas.
