As the festive season approaches, we are delighted to reflect on the wonderful creativity and enthusiasm shown by everyone who participated in our Christmas Poem contest. Your submissions have truly captured the spirit of the season, bringing joy and warmth to our workplaces.

We received a diverse range of poems, each one unique and heartfelt. From the touching reflections of Christmas, to the humorous takes on holiday traditions, every poem was a testament to the talent and imagination within Carmarthenshire County council.

After careful consideration, we are pleased to announce that the winner of the Christmas Poem contest are The Substance Use and Recovery Team. This poem stood out for its creativity and the joy it brought to the team.

 Here is the winning poem:

The office Christmas Tree debate

So, when do we put the tree up? They ask.

“Christmas Eve” the chief replied.

November is much to early you see.

THE REST OF THE TEAM DID NOT AGREE.

But Christmas always goes by so fast.

“Bah humbug!” was his reply.

Green, White, Silver or Real?

But the chief was definitely not part of this deal.

The decoration box comes down from the shelf,

"Let's hope nobody suggests a bl**dy elf".

Mince pies fresh from the oven, the Pogue’s a blast.

Cuppa tea Chief? someone joyfully asks.

It’s all about our well-being you see,

And Eastgate have already decorated their tree.

Housing will be next with tinsel galore.

“Oh, go on then”, he says "show me some more"

An Angel shone down, and the team got to work

Fig rolls on a plate, that’s our office perk.

The star shining bright was hard to see

Through the mis match of baubles hanging on the tree.

The chief contributed, as if it were a chore,

But secretly enjoyed and hung some more.

With temperature’s falling, and scaffold around us

The Radio’s playing, we’re having fun

Pathetic tree, surprised it’s still standing

But somehow brought Joy to everyone

The tree you see, is never a meaningless task

And putting it up in November is not too much to ask

Because even the chief let of a grin

(But he will never admit the team reeled him in).

Stay well, stay safe and have a Merry Christmas.
