Amazing Social Worker Awards 2026 – Jessica O’Callaghan

Jessica O’Callaghan, a Social Worker in the 0–25 Disability Team at Carmarthenshire County Council has been recognised by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) as part of their Amazing Social Worker Awards 2026.
These awards form part of BASW’s sixth annual campaign celebrating the incredible work of social workers across the UK for their dedication, compassion and impact.
Jessica was nominated by Assistant Team Manager Jessica Bateman, who highlighted her outstanding contribution to children, young people and families:
“It is with respect and admiration that I nominate Jess. Jess is a dedicated social worker who has demonstrated over the years outstanding commitment, compassion and professionalism in supporting vulnerable families, children and advocating for social justice. Through her tireless efforts and passion, Jess has improved the lives of countless individuals, advocating for children and young people with disabilities to have the same opportunities and outcomes as everybody else. Jess puts her heart and soul into her role and exemplifies the values of empathy, integrity and social responsibility that lie at the heart of the social work profession. Jess is known for going above and beyond, receiving positive feedback from judges and guardians within the court arena. Jess mentors newly qualified social workers, is an assessor for social work students, and advocates for policy changes. Jess will always put her name forward to help other team members. The team and management greatly respect Jess’ work ethic, assessment, analytical skills and her person centred approach. In recognition for her outstanding service and unwavering dedication to the team and families, I wholeheartedly put Jess forward for this nomination.”
Jessica’s recognition was announced on World Social Work Day (17 March), making the achievement even more special.
