Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Who is it aimed at?

What are the objectives?
This course aims to equip learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide mental health first aid to an individual in need. A range of topics will be covered over the duration of the course including:
- An introduction to mental health
- Stigma, risk factors and early intervention
- Depression, suicidal thoughts and self-harm
- Anxiety, panic attacks and traumatic experiences
- Psychosis and psychotic episodes
- Substance use
- Crisis first aid and the MHFA action plan
- Application of the MHFA action plan
How will it make a difference?
This course will give learners an insight into some key mental health conditions, including their signs, symptoms and risk factors. Learners will learn to appropriately assess a situation, listen non-judgmentally, give support and signpost an individual to further help. Learners will have the opportunity to practice the skills they have developed through role play and discussion. Learners should complete the course feeling confident to support a friend, colleague or family member during a mental health crisis.
