Adult Client Handling Foundation Course
All staff who assist people to move and transfer in a care environment.
Adult Client Handling Update Course
All employees who assist people to move and transfer in a care environment and have previously attended a three day Client Handling Foundation course with Carmarthenshire County Council and hold a current All Wales Manual Handling Passport.
Fire warden
All staff who have been identified and nominated for the role of fire wardens in their place of work.
First Aid – Emergency First Aid at Work
Nominated workplace first-aiders in the workplace.
First Aid at Work
Staff who have been identified as requiring the 3 Day FAW qualification. This course is only available where a risk assessment or the requirements of the post has identified the need for a 3 day qualification.
Managers should consult their Health & Safety Advisor if there is any doubt as to which First Aid qualification is required
First Aid at Work – Refresher Training
This course will provide an update in first aid skills and knowledge for people holding a current First Aid at Work certificate (three days)
To maintain their FAW qualification this refresher training has to be undertaken every three years.
Health & Safety Awareness for Caretakers & Site Managers
Caretakers and Site Managers working in schools, public buildings and care establishments.
Inanimate Object Handling
All employees within Carmarthenshire County Council who undertake higher risk manual handling activities within their place of work.
The course can be tailored to suit the specific training requirements of individual services.
IOSH Managing Safely
All managers with responsibility for managing resources and risk in the workplace including:
- Staff
- Equipment
- Vehicles
- Premises
IOSH Managing Safely Refresher
Managers who currently hold an IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.
Key Worker Monitoring Workshop
Managers, key workers, supervisors and others whose role involves monitoring manual handling activities in the workplace.
Key Worker Foundation
Managers, Supervisors, Carers who have been nominated as Manual Handling Key Workers.
Key Worker Risk Assessment Workshop
Managers, Key Workers and others whose role involves assessing manual handling activities and developing associated management arrangements to reduce risk.
This includes both inanimate manual handling and the moving and handling of people.
Ladder Safety Principles and Practice
All staff with duties involving accessing works at heights using ladders, step ladders or step up devices. This includes caretakers, site managers, teaching staff, teaching assistants, building / property services and building control.
Leadership in Health & Safety for Senior Managers
All Senior Managers and all CCC managers and Council Members with strategic responsibilities for the management of Health and Safety.
Managing Work Related Violence and Aggression
Managers of staff who are at a high risk of exposure to violent or confrontational situations as a result of their job or any duties associated with their role.
These courses can be tailored to the requirements of individual services.
Paediatric Emergency First Aid at Work
Anyone nominated as a First Aider in schools that have pupils who are under four years of age or others who have a duty of care towards younger children.
This qualification will require attendance on a refresher course every three years to maintain accreditation.
Manual Handling Paediatric Foundation Course
All employees who assist children to move and transfer in a school, nursery, meithrin, or care environment.
Paediatric Handling Update Course
Staff who undertake moving and handling activities with children and have previously attended a three day Paediatric Manual Handling Foundation course.
Personal Safety Level 1
All staff who are exposed to aggressive or abusive behaviour through telephone, email or other media contact.
This course can be tailored to include elements of Customer Care.
Personal Safety Level 2
Managers and staff who are at a high risk of exposure to violent or confrontational situations as a result of their job role or any duties associated with their role.
These courses can be tailored to the requirements of individual services.
Premises Responsible Persons
All managers who have been identified and nominated as having the duties of the Premises Responsible Person or Assistant Premises Responsible Persons in their workplace.
Radiation protection supervisor
The course is designed for school science teachers who have been designated as the Radiation Protection Supervisor for their school.
Current Holders of this qualification are required to update their qualification every 5 years.
Risk Assessments – Principles & Practice
All managers and supervisors with responsibility for undertaking risk assessments and implementing effective risk control measures in their areas of responsibility.
Workshops can be tailored to meet the requirements of individual service areas.

Managing stress
Stress and stress related conditions contribute significantly to the number of days lost to sickness absence across the whole Authority. To support managers and staff, we have developed a series of bespoke workshops to help identify and manage the underlying causes of stress in teams and individuals.

Introduction to safety cultures
Health and safety management usually involves familiar areas including risk assessments, safe systems of work, training and supervision. To really embed health and safety into the workplace and keep people engaged requires that extra something - Leadership.
