DBS Training - Barring
Who is it aimed at?
The target group for this training are HR responsible officers, service managers and anyone who is recruiting staff to work in registered services. A DBS check is a criminal record check that forms part of the recruitment process, and this training is applicable to anyone involved in recruiting and managing staff.
What are the objectives?
Barring Workshop:
- Understand the benefits of DBS and you (employer) working together
- Understand the three different referral routes
- Understand when a DBS Barring referral should be made, including when the legal duty is met
- Understand Regulated Activity / Relevant Conduct and Harm Test
- Understand how to make a good quality referral
- Have a clear understanding of the consequences of not making appropriate barring referrals and the consequences of being included in one or both Barred Lists

How will it make a difference?
Understanding and applying the correct process in recruiting staff is vital in ensuring the safety of people who may be in receipt of services. This course will update knowledge of the referral and barring process, especially following on from experiences over the past two years when services had to operate under difficult and extraordinary circumstances.

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council but meet the eligibility criteria to attend this course should complete this application form.
