Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Substance Misuse
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in the Substance Misuse Team, spare places will be offered to staff in CMHTs, CTLDs, 0-25 Disability.
What are the objectives?
To develop participants’ knowledge about the inter-relationship between autism, Asperger Syndrome and substance misuse. The programme will offer the following
- A short refresher about autism and Asperger Syndrome
- Effective communication strategies
- Autism/ Asperger Syndrome and the risks of substance misuse
- The impact of substance misuse on people with autism/ Asperger Syndrome
- Autism/ Asperger Syndrome mental health and substance misuse
- Treatments
- Strategies for managing substance misuse in autism/ Asperger Syndrome
How will it make a difference?
It will support social workers to practice effectively when supporting people with autism/ Asperger Syndrome who also misuse substances

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.
Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.
Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
