Who is it aimed at?
Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) employed by Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion
What are the objectives?
This course examines the interface between the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act in Wales. It considers how the two Acts relate to and interact with one another and the impact on AMHP practice.
It aims to:
- Explore the key rules and procedures of the Mental Capacity Act and how this relates to its interaction with the Mental Health Act.
- Explain how working practices will be affected by using the Mental Capacity Act
- Illustrate the skills needed to assess which Act is applicable for different situations
- Demonstrate practical application of the interaction between the two Acts
- Consider the changes due under the Liberty Protection Safeguards and their impact on AMHP practice
How will it make a difference?
It will support AMHPs to consider and use the most appropriate legal framework when undertaking assessments under the Mental Health Act.
