Substance Use and Mental Capacity
Who is it aimed at?
Social work staff based in Substance Misuse Team, CRTs and CMHTs applications will be accepted from social workers based in other teams and kept on a reserve list until after the closing date.
What are the objectives?
This course will provide participants with greater knowledge about the impact of substance misuse, particularly alcohol related dementia, on decision making capacity. It will offer the following outcomes
- A greater understanding of the relationship between substance use/ alcohol and capacity
- Increased confidence in assessing both risk and decision-making capacity with individuals that use substances
- Greater awareness of the options for intervening with individuals that use substances
- Ability to identify risks and needs in people who might be experiencing/ developing alcohol related dementia.
How will it make a difference?
The training will support participants to practice more effectively when supporting people with substance misuse issues.

How to apply:
If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.
If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.

Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
