Introduction to Autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance

Who is it aimed at?

Social work staff based in CMHTs, spare places will be offered to staff in CTLDs, 0-25 Disability Team and Substance Misuse Team.

What are the objectives?

To develop participants’ knowledge Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). The programme will develop participants’ knowledge of:

  • The relationship between PDA, autism and other conditions
  • The prevalence and causes of PDA
  • The autistic brain and PDA
  • The sensory needs of people with PDA
  • Strategies for working with people with PDA
  • Legislative and policy in framework relation to autism and PDA

How will it make a difference?

It will support social workers to practice effectively when supporting people with PDA

How to apply:

If you work for Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) and are logged into a CCC device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone, complete this application form.

If you work for the Council but do NOT have access to a CCC device or an email address your line manager will need to apply on your behalf.

Council employees cannot apply for any courses from their own personal device.


Partners, agency staff or people who do not work for the Council cannot apply for this course.
