Communication

Good communication, in an organisation as large and diverse as Carmarthenshire County Council, is critical for ensuring people continue to feel engaged. We all have a part to play when it comes to sharing information and we all have a responsibility to be open and honest with each other.

Most of you, that responded to the survey, told us that you are up to speed on what is happening in your team or work location, but fewer people feel they knew what is happening across the organisation, and although this attracted a positive score, it was the lowest scoring statement overall.

We also received valuable feedback from you regarding specific areas that require attention. These concerns include:

You Said: Inconsistent communication and information flow across departments.

We Listened: Your feedback highlighted the need for better communication, and we are committed to making this happen. We're encouraging everyone to stay informed through our newsletters and ensuring that appraisals are conducted regularly. These appraisals offer a fantastic opportunity to celebrate your achievements and stay updated with the latest information.

Thanks to your feedback, we're rethinking our appraisal system. During Spring 2025, we’ll be talking with staff to hear their stories and suggestions so we can improve things further.

You Said: Inconsistent top-down communication and lack of transparency around decision making in some areas.

We Listened: Our Corporate Management Team and Heads of Service Forum have discussed these findings and are currently looking at how this can be improved further to ensure consistency across the organisation.
