Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They help us to make the right decision and shape how we work together.

Our behaviours explain what our core values mean in practice. Our behaviours are about HOW we do our work, that’s important because how we work and how we treat others, affects how we deliver services.

Our Behaviours are:

  • how we personally act (the ‘how’)
  • clearly described (so we can understand them)
  • noticeable (we can see or hear them being demonstrated)

Our Behaviours will guide how we work and how we treat others; whatever job you do, in whichever service you work in.

How we work makes a difference - to each other, to our services, to developing Carmarthenshire together.

6 Core Values - 20 Behaviours - 3 levels

3 levels: What each behaviour means for your role, might look a little different, depending on the work you do and your level of responsibility.

  • Delivers - Directly delivers a service: All our roles involve delivering a service, so these behaviours apply to all of us.
  • Shapes - Shapes a service through advice, support, and/or management of resources or people: We can all work towards these behaviours.
  • Leads - Leads a service in senior or leadership positions: These behaviours influence, guide and provide direction to others, about how we should work and deliver our services.

The behaviours apply to all of us, but depending on your role, you may use the behaviours in one, two or all three ways shown here.

  • As individuals - Our Core Values and Behaviours will guide how we work, helping us understand ‘what good looks like’ in our roles and how we can develop further. They will also help us to recognise and feel comfortable to challenge behaviours that aren’t helpful to how we work.
  • As managers - Our Core Values and Behaviours will guide the conversations we have with our team members about what’s expected of them. We’ll use our behaviours to support our people to achieve their potential and resolve any issues if they arise.
  • As leaders - We influence and set an example by clearly demonstrating Our Core Values and Behaviours and encouraging others to do the same, in everything we do. Our Core Values and Behaviours will also support the planning, design and delivery of our strategic direction

Our Core Values and Behaviours will be there at every stage to help us make a difference:

  • attract and recruit people who share our values
  • develop ourselves and our services to their full potential
  • recognise strengths and celebrate achievements
  • challenge and resolve unhelpful behaviours
  • plan for the future
  • helping us make a difference - to each other, to our services, to Developing Carmarthenshire Together.
